Sara Lee Creates Returnships -- So Smart!
Friday, October 24, 2008

ee has created an internship-like opportunity for experienced mid-career professionals to re-enter the workforce following an extended leave. Sara Lee's CEO, Brenda Barnes created the program; she has her own unique return-to-work story, having left PepsiCo North America as CEO in order to raise a family before being tapped by Sara Lee.Program Objective
The Returnships @ Sara Lee (SM) program is designed to attract experienced mid-career individuals who have been out of the workforce for a number of years and who are interested in returning. Sara Lee believe this is a largely unrealized potential pool of talent; a pool consistent with our consumer profile.
Designed as internships for experienced professionals, Returnships allow candidates to re-engage with the corporate world through flexible, meaningful work and to "test the waters" prior to exploring permanent -- not necessarily full-time -- roles.
Candidate Profile
Candidates should possess the following qualifications
Education
Minimum BA or BS; advanced degree desired but not required
Years experience
Minimum 5 -- 10 years professional experience; Likely 3+ years out of the workforce

x, treasury, internal audit, ITInterest
Initial 4 - 6 month "Returnships" with interest in potential permanent (possibly flex/not full-time) position; Minimum 20 hours per week for four to six months
Additional Leadership Experience
Not-for-profit, community, school, etc. leadership roles desired but not required

McAfee's Teen/ Mom Internet Safety Survey
Thursday, October 23, 2008
- 18% of teens have been stalked or approached by a stranger or someone they don't know and 28% report that this has happened to a friend or someone they know
- 20% say their friends have been cyberpranked
- 34% of teen girls have given out personal information online to someone they don't know offline, including one if four (24%) who have shared personal photos and/ or physical descriptions of themselves (2x as many as boys)
s if they can connect with others or if they have Internet access.Parry Aftab stressed that all parents should use the 3Cs approach to new technology: content, contact and cost.
From her McAfee blog she writes:
Content includes things our children can see, access and do online. It might include false information, sexually-explicit graphics, or hate-based material. It also might include fun and entertaining activities for our children.
Contact involves ways that our children can communicate online with others or that others can reach out and communicate with our children.
Cost may encompass commercial risks and abuses, such as data collection; advertising, marketing and promotional online activities; or things you can buy on Amazon.com. It may also involve piracy and our children, and possibly being sued by the music or motion picture industry for illegal downloads. (Source)
And to read expert advice, check out Parry Aftab's McAfee blog.
As the holiday season races full steam ahead, Tracy and Parry will offer more information and quick tips for moms on how to best keep your children safe online and how you can determine the types of tech devices you would like your kids to own.

November's Real Simple
Wednesday, October 22, 2008

It's funny because I rarely, if ever, pick up a magazine on the newsstand. I was just talking to a seasoned magazine publisher yesterday and she mentioned that 73% of magazines end up being shredded at the end of each month because people typically don't buy magazines off the shelves. I must be typical because it's a rare occasion when I plunk down cold, hard cash for a magazine.
But last week I bought the latest issue of Real Simple and it was a wonderful read, even though I still have about a quarter of the issue to read still.
Two articles that really stuck out to me were Your Fastest, Easiest, Tastiest Thanksgiving Ever on page 250 and Dress Up Your Eyes on page 262. I am definitely going to recreate -- to the best of my ability -- the Thanksgiving meal they so artfully laid out and so graciously provided detailed recipes for. This article will save me countless hours trying to come up with Thanksgiving dinner off the top of my head. Check out those articles; they're well worth the read or buy a 1-year subscription to Real Simple. I did because the $4.50 newsstand price is a killer.

Absolutely Love This: B's Purses
Sunday, October 19, 2008
Many of you have probably already heard about B's Purses as they have been featured on Rachel Ray and The View and many, many other media outlets, but since I don't watch television, B's Purses are all new to me. Even though I've only learned about them, I'm just as enthusiastic about them as countless women are across the country. Here's the rundown: If you are looking for a baby bag that has personality and is fashionable instead of frumpy and only functional, you should definitely check out bspurses.com. On bspurses.com you can customize your very own baby bag, the Scottsdale, by choosing the fabric (inside and out), handle, piping, monogramming (her name or the baby's), plastic liner, and label to fit any style, stroller, or accessory.
I love that you can design your very own purse that matches your tastes and fashion style. How many of you had a run-of-the-mill baby bag from a big baby department store? I did. Bor.ing!
B's Purses -- a company started by three savvy mom entrepreneurs -- does not simply sell baby bags, though. They sell all types of purses and bags from coin purses to get this, luggage, and each piece is customizable to your taste with a plethora of fabrics to choose from. And women are getting in on the popularity of B's Purses by becoming reps and hosting Purse Parties in their home. How innovative is that? I watched the whole video of how to become a rep. Tempting. Check it out!
