Do You Consider Yourself An Attention Seeker?
Thursday, September 25, 2008
Did you know that mom bloggers are now considered "attention seekers" by those who categorize social networking users? Yes, mom bloggers are labeled "attention seekers" because we crave attention and comments from others often by posting photos and customizing our profiles (source). OK, we guess that's a pretty fair description of our online habits, but the term doesn't sit well with us.

Mom Blogs in the News
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
In BrandWeek Seventh Generation talks about how they are using the digital space to tell moms their cleaning products are better then their chemical-laden couterparts. "One of the reasons we chose digital to be the center point of the campaign is because digital is great at doing a lot of things that some of the more traditional mediums aren't," said William Gelner, executive creative director at 180LA. "Young moms watch TV and read magazines, but the one place where they're really involved and deeply engaged is the Web. Especially through mommy blogs."
Also, the New Jersey Star Ledger names Finslippy the most popular New Jersey mom blog.

Share Something Sweet and Help Children in Need
Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Ferrero Chocolates (love them!) has partnered with Share Our Strength, a national organization that strives to end childhood hunger in our country, for the second year of Share Something Sweet. Share Something Sweet is a partnership that strives to get the entire nation involved in erradicating childhood hunger. Although we are the richest country in the world some children go to bed and wake up with empty tummies. Ferrero Chocolates and Share the Strength have pledged to do something about it. According to Share Our Strength 12 million children are at risk of hunger, which we must say is startling and totally preventable. Share Our Strength works with a network of community groups, activists, and food programs to ensure that children have healthy and nutritious food where they work, play and live.
Ferrero Chocolates has already donated $150,000 to this worthy cause and now you can help hungry children, too. If you log on to Share Something Sweet and use it to "send something sweet" (that is, a customizable e-card), Ferrero will donate another $1 per e-card sent, up to $10,000. So easy! And for every person that joins the Ferrero Facebook page, "Ferrero Lovers Unite," Ferrero will donate another $1 to Share Our Strength (up to $1,000).
We are getting in on the action! Send us your email address at editors (at) themomsalon (dot) com and we will send you an e-card and help feed a hungry child.

If you live in Dallas or the surrounding area there is an art exhibit that is a must-see!The Meadows Museum presents From Manet to Miro: Modern Drawings from the Abello Collection, an exhibit of works by 45 of the most important artists of the past two centuries, from September 14 through December 2, 2008. The drawings, by such artists as Manet, Degas, Dali and Miro, are from the private collection of Juan Abello and his wife, Anna Gamazo, of Madrid, who were recently named among the world's 200 top art collectors by ArtNews. The exhibit marks the first time their collection has been shown in the United States, and the Meadows Museum is its only U.S. venue.
