Celebrate Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children on September 22
Friday, September 5, 2008
Eating meals together as a family is one of the basic ways to bond with your children, keep the lines of communication open with them, and simply share the day's happenings with each other. The J.M Smucker Company is partnering with The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University to celebrate Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children, which will be celebrated on September 22 this year.

To help you prepare for Family Day, Smucker is offering a free, online chat with The Surprising Power of Family Meals author Miriam Weinstein on September 16, 2008. Readers can visit www.poweroffamilymeals.com between 8 -10pm EST to chat with Weinstein, who will provide insight into the importance of family meals, tips on how to make it a part of your routine every day, and creative ways to make these occasions special.
"Although some may see meal time solely as a time to eat, it is much more than that," said Weinstein. "It is also a place for emotional and behavioral nourishment. Meal time sets the stage for family interaction. Parents are so important in their kids' lives and the kitchen table is such an obvious place for kids to get regular access to them."

Mom Bloggers in the News
Wednesday, September 3, 2008

As often as possible we will post round-ups of mom bloggers who have made it to the news. Although there have already been many, many news stories about moms who blog in the news, we think it's a good idea to keep a running tab for posterity's sake and also to share the good news about how influential our genre of blogs really is.
- On Monday, reporters at the New York Times wrote an article about mothers' reactions to Sarah Palin and mentioned UrbanMamas is their coverage. Urban Mamas was noticed by the reporters because of a heated conversation about the Republican Vice Presidential pick's mothering style. She went back to work three days after having her fifth child who has special needs.
- If you haven't heard yet, Wal-Mart tapped 11 influential mom bloggers to vlog about ways to save money. They received a flip camera and will visit the Wal-Mart corporate headquarters in October. None were paid by Wal-Mart, but each hopes that this opportunity turns into more opportunities and increased traffic to their sites. Read more here.
- Lifetime Networks acquired ParentsClick network, home of MothersClick and the Mom Blog Network. Read more.
